Communists consider the 2nd World War to be a reactionary movement against a global communist revolution and thus use the term reactionary, fascist, and nazi interchangeably. The modern left misuse of the term is borrowed from this and basically means "anybody who doesn't signal my in group and whose politics don't appear to align with my own"
