Indie vtubers agree to strict Hololive contracts for the money but if they are getting millions they wouldn't graduate unless things were really bad. Sana, Ame, Fauna, Mumei, and Gura all had major disagreements with Cover and they were 25% of the EN branch. The graduation rate in HoloEN is curious since it does indicate that cultural differences between EN talents and JP management did often cause huge fights.

It's a business whose goal is selling a product and the idol industry is certainly not known for realism. Still the more Hololive has grown in terms of company size the more fights they are having with talents. Cover is getting worse in that area which is why they had so many graduations in 2024/2025.

Well, most of them at least. In general the ones who actually invest back in the channel aren't, but who knows when it comes to the girls who don't actually do anything but hit "Go live" without much else. Wouldn't be surprised if Fauna built up a nice nest egg, but I doubt someone like Bae or even Koyo who spend tons of money all the time can build that kind of war chest.

Last year, Filian said she's nowhere near a millionaire, and if she's not a millionaire despite being a high ranking content creator on multiple platforms, I have a hard time imagining any of the indies are.

And Gura/Ame/Mooms showed that even streaming consistency doesn't matter.

It likely is just merchandising/sponsorships/royalties and being able to actually save. I'd be surprised if much else mattered as far as their personal finances go.

You overestimate how much people care about money after they are set for life (or underestimate how much people like "freedom"). Unrelated to VTubing, but for example, just look at all those SEs from top firms who make millions a year - just to quit their jobs and started WFH freelancing for just 5-6 figures income as early as mid-30s. Not everyone wants to work in a system beyond their own control.
