Also there's another really annoying thing it does. I can't remember how long ago it was now, probably 10+ years at this point, but they changed the way accounts work (I think it was something that meant a single account could have multiple "channels"). For me this for some reason meant my existing youtube account and my regular google account got "split" or something into two separate "channels" under the same account for some reason. Anyway, google because they're such pieces of shit, every now and then just randomly change which "channel" you're logged in as for no reason (and without telling you), which changes your watch history and sometimes I don't notice until after I've watched a few videos, which then aren't counted as watched on my proper account.
