>>107470919It has nothing to do with competition. It's all about media classism. You saw this already in the 90s, everyone started wondering why music sounded so manufactured. Of course it had something to do with the fact that it was either sung/played by or produced by a second or third generation media elite. The 00s was when MTV started going parasocial and reality TV really took off. Now society as a whole has gone digital, and the elites have had a decade and a half to migrate to Youtube and Twitch.
Guys like Maximillian Dood are known to be big media guys in their community, but are barely considered adjacent to adjacents in this crowd. Aris is probably never getting an award, despite that he gets a lot of viewers still, but it's like he doesn't exist. There are a lot of streamers in the low to mid thousands ccv range that never get mentioned, even some with fairly good connections, despite not being true elites.
You go to any of these communities and it's like you've stepped into an entirely new reality where none of that other stuff exists. But it's not just numbers either, it's connections, and brownie points. You have minorities like ThatBronzeGirl that has made sure to rub shoulders with a lot of connected LA people looking for a token minority. She's a low 3view and has been stuck there forever, but she gets on these weird skit shows for events and stuff. Effectively she has more clout than a lot of 4-5views because she's connected.
It's completely delulu to think they've ever considered vtubers as competition, and aren't just reaching out to try and broaden their own market. In fact they don't hate you, they're indifferent since they don't see anyone here or anyone's oshi as anything more than a potential market that is being weird and difficult. But don't worry, with a few jokes you'll realize how much cooler it will be to send your savings to one of their friends.
