There's probably a clause in the legal terms that you can't place any wager that you have material influence over the outcome on.
Now, not saying that isn't horribly easy to game (e.g. get a relative to place the bet instead of you). But if you went about it too blatantly then the bookmaker could refuse to pay out your wager or sue you to claw it back.
I doubt it would rise to a criminal situation outside of sports itself. But losing your money in a civil action would be decent dissuasion.
