That's per hour although it's more on the upper range. McD JP pays around 1.2K-1.4K yen per hour on average, lower during the day (can get as low as 800 yen) and higher during night shift.
Fun fact: an English teacher gets ~1.2K yen per hour, even lower than McD while having higher requirements
(All of those are for part-time workers, of course)

Reminds me of the time I spent 4 months at an advertising company, where the position was marketed in the national job office as "assistant marketing specialist".
The first week was a bunch of training which made me believe I'm actually going to create ads on the internet, but that was only so they can get a subsidy for me. The remaining 11 weeks, every single work day was 7 hours of cold calling people about pots, printers or solar panels, and 1 hour(sometimes more) of being a janitor and cleaning up after actual marketing specialists went home.
And the worst part is that this was advertised to me as a job, but it was technically an internship that doesn't count towards work experience or retirement, and I found out by trying to get my next job through the same office. The job I wanted to get listed 3 months of work experience, but I was told they can't give it to me due to not fulfilling the requirement. I got to listen to a 15 minute monologue on the difference between jobs and internships and how dumb is the current generation for not understanding it, while holding the paper saying JOB OFFER in bold at the very top of it, by the very same post-wall bitch who who gave me that very same paper to me half a year ago. And at the end of it I got shoved out of the way by the people who were in the queue behind me, as if it was my fault.

Another thing to keep in mind is that if you go work in a McD or a konbini, you're probably gonna pick one that is close so it's cheap if not free to commute to.
Cover offices are in Tamachi which, while not Omotesando levels of rent, isn't cheap. Locals are doing things that bring in more money, so whoever picks this will have to commute a long distance unless they're living with someone earning more.

Well, don't live in Tokyo. A couple of girls I watch live in the chuubu region, close to the cities where the bullet train stations are instead and they rent a place that is 2 to 3 times bigger than what they'd get in Tokyo. If they gotta go to Tokyo (they generally don't, they're shut in streamers) they're like 2 hours away.
Just plan around the train, or enjoy your shoebox sized apartment.

The money they offered is still bad, though, nobody is gonna do this for 1250 yen per hour unless they hope to get closer to a Holo. You can get 1400-1500 in Mcdonalds or as a conbini cashier.

Like another anon brought up above, a part time English teacher's hourly wage can get as low as 1.2K per hour (and as high as 4K+) according to Google. 1,250 yen / hour is pretty low, but for a part-time (4 hours a day, 2-3 days a week), assistant technical writing it doesn't seem that bad. They are probably aiming at those high school / undergrad students that take several part time jobs to make ends meet

Good on Cover and the pay is low but it's not crazy for a replaceable role. I would do it (nihongo reps and location notwithstanding) but they would never hire me because I actually love my oshi and will not medicate.

This isn't even the first or second pay drama that's come up in recent years. Does Cover just naturally lowball everyone (including contractors)? Or as fans believe, the talents are well paid, but maybe not the rest of the corporate staff? If so it might explain why they seem to regularly mess up (missing visa renewals, not noticing AI generated work, timeliness of some perms, etc). They're not hiring the best, they're just hiring the cheapest.

The only time I technically got a "real job" was at the end of my license, 11 weeks intern. I was paid 6.5€/hour (1184円). All I did was basically programming exercises that probably never got used.
