That is not emphasis. You've used em dashes to create a parenthetical interjection clarifying the object of the sentence. Parentheses would have been more correct in this instance because while em dashes are technically a valid way to form a parenthetical, the content of this parenthetical doesn't match the use case for em dashes and is both stylistically abhorrent and just plain ugly to read.
