HRtP is a college project, and it shows. Cool atmosphere and the final boss of the makai route is sick, but I wouldn't spend too much time on it.
SoEW is fun, and is the first real shmup in the series, but has some big design flaws (mashing fire is more effective than holding it, so it's a pain on your hands, and dying shifts your hitbox by a pixel relative to your sprite). Still worth playing.
PoDD is interesting. It has cutscenes but in regards to gameplay it's a low budget TSS without any of the interesting mechanics that make PoFV fun.
LLS feels like the first real Touhou, and it's the first of the shmups to adopt a 6 stage structure. Worth playing for sure.
MS is legitimately a really good game. It's pretty similar to EoSD, down to having a blade throwing maid of a "devil" as the stage 5 boss. All the bosses are really interesting in some way or another, especially when you get to stage 3 and later, and it has one of my personal favorite final bosses in the series. Fantastic game, PC98 or not it's one of my favorites in the series.
