>>108194112Labeling it as an 'addiction' as if it's a drug or something (regardless of whether it's correct) can counter-intuitively backfire because your mind is giving it more power. I think this is where gooners come from, they get turned on by the thought of being submissive to porn itself because they've come to see as some powerful dominant thing, so the label of 'addiction' becomes like a self-fulfilling prophecy. Instead, I think you should just consider it to be a lame habit who's badness is proportional to how much you indulge in it. It's fine to jerk off sometimes, but it's obviously unhealthy if you're spending hours a day spiking and crashing your dopamine with it. Porn is not some powerful monster, it's just some manchild thing, it's lame and dumb shit like funco pops, getting mad on the internet, and having soda as your default drink.
Another aspect is to not see it as a 'root' problem, aka, it's not porn that is making your life bad, but it's the fact your life is bad that is causing you to turn to porn. Really I think it is a feedback loop (both things cause the other like a downward spiral), but the framing of porn as *not* the root problem is healthier because then it's a matter of filling your life with other things (which you should be doing regardless) and letting porn and other impulsive habits fall by the way side. Your life feels empty and your indulge in short-term pleasures, so fill your life instead.
Be more involved in the lives of the people around you, get some creative hobby or join in with a friend or family members hobby, get lost in the details of some challenging project, let *something* more substantial fill your mind, and let whatever lame habits you had occupy less and less of your time and thoughts.
