>>108243771That is the functional part of isekai. It's a crutch for writers to do a couple of things.
First of all it allows the protagonist to be ignorant of the world they're in so less effort needs to be put into showing the setting and setting it up in an organic way. They can simply have the protagonist ask a question and then exposition will do all of the heavy narrative lifting.
Secondly it allows the protagonist to possess otherworldly knowledge without needing to explain how they would know that. It's because they're from Earth so obviously they know X or Y. This allows writers to easily write themselves out of a stupid corner they've painted themselves into.
Thirdly it's easier for readers to self-insert into. This means little to no effort needs to be spent actually developing the personality of the protagonist.
In summary: The protagonist can be written to simultaneously stupid as shit and also deus ex machina competent and not violate the isekai setting. It's effortless to write a story like this when the rules are so forgiving.
