Plenty of us have close friends, close family, bfs/gfs, spouses. I for one don't feel any lonelier when I'm not watching my oshi, but what about (You)?

streaming in general has a "friend simulator" stigma attached to it (it is inherently a parasocial medium tbf), you combine that with the stereotypes of dudes into anime waifus and it's easy to see why vtubing is percieved the way it is

Allow me to explain why this perception exists, as an Autistic Man born in the late 90s and being diagnosed at a young age I often dealt with Normalfags while I was growing up, obivously Vtubers werent around back then so ill use closer examples, Video Games and Anime were often unappealing to this group, and so a lot of these people will not understand the appeal which I guess is fine, for Neurotypicals I imagine its difficult to simulate the autism experience, a lot of people don't see Vtubers has helpful to male loneliness but in a way I must respectfully disagree as I believe it to be a healthy coping mechanism (there isn't a lot of spaces for anime and video game fans to meet up with one another and make new friends regularly especially in non-major Urban areas (even smaller cities like Boston and Seattle have this issue) and so the internet is the next best thing, and Vtubers often being female and appealing to male sexual desires as well as having generally good personalities and are in all honesty far less toxic then other fandoms (believe me i also like gaming and pro-wrestling), while I do get Unicorns are bad, I think watching Vtubers is perfectly acceptable as long as you dont take it to weird levels

I'm not really lonely at all, I have friends and loved ones and even though I'm single it doesn't bother me at all. but on the other hand I get basically zero interaction with cute girls IRL, so I do in fact enjoy that aspect from vtubers.

Idgi, this thought process is alien to me. I feel like it only applies to the obsessed who have to watch every stream from their oshi from start to finish and they make only 1% or less of all fanbases anyway. Otherwise it's just like anything else on youtube.

I have close family, no friends except some from the far past I could maybe contact. Of course no gf either.
I feel less lonely when watching my oshi, I wouldnt really like her to be in a relationship, it'd feel wrong.
but realistically one day we'll both be old and life does have to go on. So I guess in the far future I'd rather her get into a happy relationship than die alone.
I'd hope the same for me too, I'd still watch her even then. Hopefully I have my own gf by then.
