Remember it's not just tiers for the sake of it but you also need to break up the benefits. If you can't afford the yearly price tag then just buy merch from them instead once a year. It makes sure YouTube gets no cut of your money.

Generic merch gives little to a corpo vtuber and even cheap merch like acrylic stands has shipping and tariffs. $15 for the acrylic stand can easily cost $30 with maybe $1 going to the actual vtuber. 30 to 1 is a lot less than 3 to 1 so membership is the best way to give money to the content creator.

This is the only sensible route.
It gives you easy cheap route to loads of emote slots, and lets people use alt accounts easily to sub on said accounts for that reason.
Gifted auto-goes to nearest to $5 if I remember right.
You'd need $4-6 and a further "actual member" tier to weed out the gifties.
