>>108804328It truly was a black swan event. So horrific that is created within the vtuber industry the concept of malicious overlapping, despite the fact that overlapping in general had already been (unavoidably) happing for years.
And they tried overlapping Doki a couple of times after that, each significantly less effective than the last. A couple of weeks after the black screen, Doki had a Helldivers 2 collab with off-brand TSB (Cover didn't have streaming perms yet, so Altare and Axel had to go on PL) scheduled for an Asia-friendly timeslot; and lo and behold, a third of Niji EN had an "impromptu" and "guerilla" offcollab karakoe stream in that exact same timeslot. It was not very effective at taking viewers and dollars away from Doki, particularly because the TSB stream got delayed due to technical issues on RPR's end.
A week or so after that, Doki had her charity stream. Niji's counter-programming was so comically ineffective that nobody found out about it until after the fact. The counter-program was Enna doing a zatsu that went on for about 7 hours; it was so ineffective at taking viewers and dollars away from Doki's 7 hour charity stream that Enna took a one week "hiatus" afterwards.
Oh, and then there was Obsydia's 3D debuts and the AR Live. Petra's and Rosemi's showcases were refilmed almost in their entirety, with the only pre-termination sketch remaining in either showcase was the scene with Petra worshiping Riku as a god. And also a full 15 minutes of Rosemi's showcase getting cut wholesale.
As for the AR Live, that was another shitshow. Un-mothballed right after the horrific earnings report in a desperate attempt to prevent EN's quarterly revenue from dipping below a billion yen, it was severely butchered in a ham-fisted attempt to pretend that Selen had never joined the company in the first place. Nearly every song with Petra or Rosemi in it had to get cut because of this, with "Petra" and "Rosemi" tweeting out pre-emptive apologies regarding the cuts to their parts hours after the un-mothballing of AR Live was announced.
Oh, and then management sent (a picture of) merch of Selen's wavemates from the event from whence Selen had been cut to Selen's art mama.
>---And the worst part of the entire shitshow for Niji EN management and Anycolor corporate? The one part of this mess which was worse for them than everything else combined, the only part fully outside of their control:
Less than a month before Niji terminated Selen, Holo had terminated Mel.
Anyone with the slightest bit of awareness of the vtubing industry could easily compare and contrast the two terminations - the plain text of the actual termination notices themselves, the selected talents' public statements immediately following, the timing of the release of those public statements, the CEOs' public statements about their respective talents and their terminations, the timing of the deletion/privating of the terminated talents' contents, and even the terminated talents' responses to their own respective terminations.
Hololive's termination of Yozora Mel was very amicable, even with the context of it being a termination and not a graduation. There were no hard feeling for anyone involved, everything was as calm and professional as possible, and they even kept her in a a scene from a 3D performance which had been recorded before she was fired but published afterwards.
Nijisanji's termination of Selen Tatsuki was... well... the opposite of "amicable." To the point that people are still in awe over how non-amicable it was nearly two years later, and will likely still be awestruck by it for many more years to come.
