>>108960883Japanese food is terrible, especially if you're a tourist trying to not spend a hundred dollars on food everyday.
Everything is tendon, fat, connective tissue, tofu. Fruit and vegetables are endangered species except for the odd pickled, blanched radish.
90% of your calories come from white rice, noodle and sugary sauces. The only nutritionally balanced meals you'll get there are from western-style places but those are mostly fast food. Or you go to the other extreme and pay 50 bucks to gorge on beef strips and beer.
It's different if you have your own kitchen and can prepare meals since you can find some good cheap fish at the supermarkets but obviously people just visiting for work for a few weeks don't have stoves in their hotels. There's a reason every 7/11 has a colossal aisle of supplements, it's because salarymen living downtown in kitchenless single-room appts live off of them and takeout rice bowls. It's unironically dystopian fiction eating nutrient paste kind of shit.
There are food gems to be found but none of it is affordable everyday stuff.
