2DHATER WAS RIGHT
FUCK LIVE2D PEASANTS, 3D MASTERRACE.
Dropkick riggers, etc.
>>109145513As the other anon said, it's just tedious as fuck.
I've made my own 2D rigging system before and while it's not even close to what L2D can do, it's still the same general workflow - making a fuckload of layers, giving them some properties that define how they move around, having to pin things in the right way, testing to ensure things don't look really retarded at specific positions, or that you don't end up with dumb shit like Goomboid, adding proper physics, etc.
As Cubism got updated, it made life insanely easier for making proper translations of those layers, allowed you to mask out textures so you could have invisible parts become visible only when you move over enough (really useful for adding depth to hair and clothing textures without adding more layers)
As an alternative, with a decent 3D model and a flat cartoon shader, you can emulate L2D. You just have to deal with tracking jank.
But you instantly gain access to a fuckload more flexibility with buying and adding on new outfits, you can't realistically bolt stuff on to L2D without it looking retarded.
All that pinning functionality that vtubers can do with L2D is a hack. (same with hiding and tweaking layers dynamically)
It has improved a lot, especially with Vtube Studios more recent updates to pinning, but it's still janky.
