>>109359428>nonsequiturAnon you need to get better at arguing, it was a direct retort to your claim that men "pretend to know how to fix the world", point being technological advancements(which you end up even recognizing in your exact same post, to be addressed after) throughout history, mostly brought to fruition by men, "fixed" a lot of issues humans have been plagued with for thousands of years.
>trying to use the achievements of progressives to argue against progressivism. The people who advance technology are, presumably, the educated liberals.Oh now this is quaint. You realize a lot of modern science owes significant credit to the clergy for thousands of years, right? Hardly what you'd call "liberal" by today's standards.
This idea you're peddling that progressivism, and by which you mean modern "progressivism" existed in the past until White men abolished slavery(well, at least in White and most Asian countries) around the world is laughable.
These people were far from what you'd call "educated liberals" or "progressives". Certainly educated though.
>They're not the same people fighting for a Christian nationalist state.I can assure you that a significant amount of the people you would have to credit for your modern lifestyle would have shockingly racist opinions by modern standards, and many of them were religious. They didn't need to "fight for a Christian nationalist state" because being Christian was the default until the mid 20th century.
Granted this is aside from what I'm arguing and you've injected yet another topic to distract from the original argument. It really just shows more of your worldview, though, to interject with random Christianity seethe.
>But if you want to argue that progressives made progress on the backs of God-fearing rural voters, then I can make the same argument for the hidden role of women throughout history. It's a wash at best.I think you've come to yet again mischaracterize my stances. I don't deny that women have helped throughout history. I just don't believe the "hidden role of women" was all that hidden or impactful in some situations. Was it due to them not being allowed to do various jobs in the past? Obviously that plays a part. But modern society has completely shifted to favoring women in any position(well, except the trades and waste management, they don't want to do that). It's demonstrably true that women have never had it better than now, they have it better than men in college, finding jobs, the "sexual marketplace" and life expectancy. Yet men are still overwhelmingly the geniuses pushing technology and quality of life forward.
If THIS is what you mean by progress, then I'd agree. But the idea that modern, progressive liberalism is to credit for all of humanity's development to-date is frankly retarded.
