He brought up that he thinks shes not really an anime fan because she doesnt much care about the medium she claims to consume, if she could mention at least some of the anime she likes or specific things about them, literally any kind of information you could say "yeah, i guess shes a fan". If a person who consumes anime no matter the popularity or obscurity does it frequently and they find an enjoyment in it, they are a fan. Whenever they are a fan of x genre or how dedicated or invested they are is another matter but at its core to be a fan of something you have to at least bring up what you are a fan of.
Its like saying "yeah i like to read" but you never bring up authors, collections, genres or even specific book titles from something youve been focusing on reading. Its bringing up titles and honorifics for the sake of making yourself look or seem more interesting than you already are, like reciting wikipedia pages or bringing up random, common-in-the-field factoids to your friends.
