I found out recently that the first movie got a localization so terrible (guy was notorious for doing a poor job and not understanding the source material), the japanese fans sent a letter about the situation to Peter Jackson. Boromir was the biggest victim of this since his character got rewritten into a mess. I think they redid the localization and later movies got better treatment.
