Boomers raised without good ways to teach it are utterly hopeless at spatial thinking. Women raised sequestered from actual learning resources because 'that's boy stuff' are similarly disadvantaged. Those that encounter it later in life tend to learn it much more slowly, in part because it's not a skill you can explain or teach in a classroom; you learn by doing.
You and I were fortunate to have childhood's inundated with learning resources for spatial thinking skills but it's actually the minority.
