>>109794656Once a channel is consigned to purgatory the algorithm will never let it leave. The algo can only boost your channel by showing it to more people, it can't make them click. But the algorithm can suppress your channel by showing it to nobody, even people actively looking for it.
This is basically the curse every big channel deals with. Once the algorithm has 'placed' you, it will actively try to keep you there. It can't artificially enhance your viewership but it can artificially suppress it, so channels that have hit their proverbial peak will only be forced to gradually decline in exposure and discovery over time and the algorithm repeatedly adjusts them downward. Once you give it any reason at all to downgrade you, you are forever trapped in the spiral. This is unironically why very big channels are encouraged to release content less frequently, it keeps their discovery stable for longer.
Of course none of this is to suggest Vox does not deserve his situation. But even a decent human being who has declined from 4view to 3view could not reverse the trend. The better performing your content becomes, the more the algorithm will actively suppress your channel in order to push it back towards the 'expected' engagement.
