She did a lot of collabs and participated in a lot of events that were predominantly JP, and she even did pretty well in lobbies with horrid ping. Selen powered through all of that with zero functional nihongospeak because as an ex-Apex Predator, she was able to play the game at a level beyond the average vtuber and that skill transcends the need for words sometimes.
JP and CN fans used to like her for her energy and her easy-to-understand English because she tends to use simple words and repeat herself. She was always happy and despite laughing like a maniac, she was somehow good at the game. Ryoma is none of these things. He doesn’t have the “fluency” needed to charm his way in, he lacks the connections/networking needed to worm his way in, and he lacks the raw skill and accolades to brute his force his way into getting picked.
With all of that said, he’s quite inoffensive. Nijifans just can’t help themselves from jumping at the chance to chastise a talent the moment they behave even slightly out of line. The post-traumatic Selen disorder is just that potent: they don’t want to leave any avenue that can be possibly exploited by dramatubers. No public criticism or venting allowed. You’re a corpotuber, you’re only allowed to smile and wave until you graduate for “disagreements with management.”
