>Umeboshi Onigiri
Dad chama, 見て!you can make onigiri, and they are very simple and delicious! It only takes four ingredients plus whatever filling you choose. Or don't use filling at all! it's a small step on your journey to becoming beatani's house husband (slave).
>Rice
You should look for Koshihikari, or premium short grain rice. It is important to use a short grain rice.
>Nori
You can use the small individual sheets, or cut up large sheets.
>Salt
I use normal koshering salt
>Gomashio
This is a japanese salt infused sesame seed seasoning. If you can't get it, you can try to use black and/or white sesame seeds (or another seasoning of your preference).
>Filling
Picrelated is using umeboshi. Specifically koume umeboshi. They are chopped up and mixed with the rice.
>Recipe
Make the rice in a rice cooker or stovetop pot according to instructions. Let the rice cool for a bit. If you have a large wooden bowl or something like this, you can put all the rice in there. Add the gomashio and umeboshi to the rice. You should adjust seasoning as you go along to your own preferences. When you mix the rice, do not stir it. You would want to use a flat wooden spatula (or similar) and sort of chop and fold the rice over itself.
Once your rice is thoroughly mixed, you can make the onigiri. I filled one bowl with water and another bowl with salt. You will not be able to properly handle the rice with dry hands. You can wet your hands and put some salt in between your fingers. Put one onigiri worth of rice in your palm and begin to form the onigiri with your thumb, pointer, and middle fingers. You want it to be dense enough where it will not fall apart--it should hold its shape. Mold the rice into the triangle shape with a gentle pressure, and wrap with a single piece of nori.
Remember! Rice gets hard when kept in the refrigerator. So you may just want to leave them at room temperature for the day.
Oishi!
