>>11778391My oshi of 2+ years is HoloJP. Found her accidentally while doing reps. Got to N4, dropped all JP stuff (studying, anime, chubas) for a year due to burnout. Restarted reps this summer and still going strong. I can understand 20-80% of the content depending on the stream.
I watch a good amount of HoloENs (yes I'm a Holofag exclusively) as well, though I've got limited time in a day. Watching ENs is easier on the brain, but my oshi's voice is the most relaxing.
The difference between them is that HoloEN are more inexperienced as streamers and it shows. Both are fun, but their approaches to streaming (planning, engagement, behaviour etc) are different.
When JPs debuted, VRtubing was a cutthroat industry, so the weaker streamers were either culled or improved enough to get an audience. Just like how they say adversity breeds innovation, early chubas had to literally improvise, adapt and overcome to retain their career. This is why Holos keep thanking their senpais for "paving the road" for them; they've gathered an audience and a reputation for the newer members so that gives them an advantage of being known, something that the senpais themselves didn't have. 2views might be seething at this, but they need to remember that Hololive was built on the shoulders of 2views as well, until they made it.
On the other hand, ENs, while also having a streaming background (most of them), it does not extend as far back as the JPs. Furthermore, due to the difference in culture and lack of understanding due to the language barrier, they seem to not fully comprehend the magnitude of the contributions from their senpais, and that translates into a less than expected amount of respect for the medium. They are improving, and the ones with (near) fluency of JP (Kiara, Irys, Sana, Bae), especially Irys, being the closest to JPs for obvious reasons, but the Western influence is indeed apparent.
>Inb4 weeb/ywnbjJapan's social/employment values don't mesh well with mine so, while I'd visit for a few years, I wouldn't live there for long (they wouldn't allow me to in the first place).
>tl;drJPs are more serious about vtubing while ENs lack respect, and that reflects on their content.
