Due to weather conditions across the Taiwan strait its risky and impractical to stage an invasion for all but 3 weeks a year. On top of that less than third of Taiwan's coast is suitable for naval landings, all of which are (unsurprisingly) incredibly well defended, with the Taiwanese government having protocols to turn all their landable beaches into mined moonscapes overnight. tens of thousands would be blown to smithereens before even making boot to tarmac.
And then comes the part after the beach: occupying the island itself. Its mountainous, swampy, and perfect for guerilla warfare. And after 3 weeks, new soldiers and supplies will stop coming in as the strait becomes uncrossable again.
Like holy shit how when you actually think about it invading Taiwan is a fucking pipe dream.
