Keep people entertained and you will do well, be boring and you will do bad. The biggest vtubers are no life menheras that give GFE experience to make bucks for their company overlords. They couldn't make it as voice actresses or stand alone artists.
If those old shits became forgotten is because they were selfish and boring. The audience doesn't own you shit. If you don't do it for your audience and you do it "to be respected or recognized" no wonder why people don't give a shit about you anymore.
Vtubers aren't artists, who can stand out merely on their singing or art skills without needing the avatar gimmick or the holo/niji brand name.
But at least holo knows it needs to keep the audience entertained, and the employees are ordered and managed to do so. Instead of just glorified bloggers with an avatar.
Look at all the old original ones like Kizuna/Akari. Obsessed with preserving their brand prestige while absolutely disconnected from their fans. Who could give a fuck??
Remember when Kizuna went viral with "Fuck you Fuck you"? That made such a big dent in the vtuber culture as the korone or fubuki clips. But Kizuna was ordered to quiet down to keep the respect of the company and brand. And now she is forgotten.
It has never been about being respectable.
