Its why I think their males do well in Japan, as they basically ARE the male streamers outside of the few standouts like Jun and whatnot. Japan was slower to adopt the streamer culture that already exists in the west, so as streaming became more popular at the same time as vtubing in Japan, they sort of mingled together, mixed and you get the current streaming environment in Japan (NND is basically a dead-end site in the long-term for growth no?)
Its part of the reason I don't think male vtubers will take off in the EN market, because all of the good talents can just be IRL streamers as that's the culture, whereas in Japan its acceptable to choose to go the chubba route or be a normal streamer.
