The thing that surprises me the most about Nijimale SCs every time is how girthy they are.
The yen to SC # ratio is pretty retarded.
It means not that many fans are even donating, but the ones donating are dropping big bucks every SC.

Those people had no idea what they were talking about. Despite initial step members having less views on stream they are "the initial step" of Nijisanji, every fan of the JP side knows them well. You're looking at this the wrong way though, Coco was always the odd one out with her supacha culture. Rainbows, toilet flushing, auroras, any gimmick SC you can think of originated from Kiryukai and those drive the count way up. Elsewhere a normal fan would just throw a single akasupa a stream but on Coco's and now kson's they get creative.

It won't translate into his own CCV increasing significantly since these people were never watching vtubers to begin with, but for stuff like song views? They'll give it a click if the seiyuu they follow retweets it or if their favourite utaite mixed the song and is promoting it (Soraru has 1.5mil twitter followers).

Fuck the google trends schizo, but I don't think it's surprising if Kuzuha is more popular in Japan than Pekora, at least to your average Japanese person who uses the internet.
He crosses into multiple other big JOP fandoms and circles and gets his name out there.

tl;dr JOP casuals probably know Kuzuha more than any other vtuber because he's everywhere. They don't sub since they don't watch streams, but they know who he is.

I identified all the same problems you had and had assumed that the academy would just be some kind of 6 month part time thing behind the scenes in order to farm up better debut candidates but broadcasting this seems to be missing the point of a chuuba and making it feel more like a product molded by the company with even a pre-planned growth arc included instead of helping and cheering on someone working towards their dreams. It also asks the questions, how samey will these candidates end up? Will the audience agree with the 'training' or whatever they plan to display? If someone catches on, what happens when they graduate, will they be able to tell fans that they're becoming someone else? Certain things can’t be taught, they’re more in an “apprenticeship” system where the experienced ones teach the tricks to the newcomers *in the field*.

Hololive streams used to be scuffed as fuck with girls failing miserably to, for instance, set their OBS properly or to balance their audio levels.

Not exactly. A lot of the low-mid to bottom Nijis basically treat it as a hobby. Kuzuha, Kanae and Fuwa are digital host for Fujos. There are some in Niji who do want to make it big but most of them will probably graduate to pursue those dreams irl. Hololive is different because most Holos do have a big dream in mind and want to achieve it as chuubas. Suisei and Subaru are the epitome of this. Even Pekora who danced like shit in Holofes2 greatly improved as showcased in Mel's live yesterday because she actually started training. Gura herself has mentioned that she dreams of performing on stage just like those Miku concerts that she saw way back, so now most chumbuds are invested in seeing her in 3d and performing. That is what a real idol journey looks like.

However it's one of hololive's main tentpoles and something that is constantly in the background of what goes on there. Even people like Botan have done a singing 3d live. It's about framing overall. It's much easier to get involved in something if everyone around you that you interact with is also involved in that thing. This happens to both the hololive fandom and also the hololive talent but doesn't really in niji due to their nature and culture.

I think it's the best in the long run from a business perspective. ID needs to develop the market if they should have a purpose to exist. From a pure numbers perspective it's probably not the best way forward, but if they can build a bigger national core then it should improve over time.

Just base the conclusion from Hal's income graph where ad revenue reigns king. Ad rev + Premium is still significantly better than sponsorships except from big name likes red bull, taco bell, don quijote etc. The exposure from it is worth.

Also, it's rare to see Holos get low level sponsorship offers these days unless they really want it. The only ones I think that's low is Mel and FBK's tales of luminaria shill or FBK/AQUA shilling a rhythm game.

A few have made some efforts to learn a bit of English - Qpi and Lisa have done duolingo streams.
The biggest problem is Apex though. They would probably do better with more minecraft streams, which are currently quite infrequent. But how I started watching them, because they would be playing minecraft for 8 hours in what is EU primetime.

It has been mentioned before, but their hours are often pretty good for US and EU viewers. I have no idea how JP fans actually watch them when they're streaming in the early hours of the morning.

Don't give Kiryukai a bad name. The popularity boom was due to subbers, algo and COVID. FBK was the first to try to pander to English speaking viewers (if you don't count Haato's full English streams that were less for EN pandering and more for what she thought was a good way to study English).

What is significant to you is not the same for the rest. Some people has Aki as a gateway of all chuubas because of her milestone clip. All the biggest streamers in the world are dudes on Twitch (asmongold, xQc, that spanish dude). In JP, the streaming scene kind of grew at the same time vtubers did, so vtubing and irl streaming are more even-footed, with only a few notable standouts such as Jun and Koretube. The fact that HoloEN is as big as it is is honestly a bit of a minor miracle.

The post you replied to was just falseflagging but I think a lot of people here got into Hololive via EN or dog clips and have no idea what kind of a position Coco had for the first four or five months because there's really nothing equivalent these days. It was the period Hololive as a group really started booming over Nijisanji with box pushing becoming powerful and in that period pretty much anything she did was THE thing in vtubing.

I would not say bullied to death, but Coco has always been kinda cringe to the og fans on /jp/. I myself was not a huge fan, I found her obnoxious, but she did contribute to Hololive's growth. Not only her. It was a perfect storm of a lot of on-hand talents from previous gens, clips and the rona. Coco was more influential with her live morning shows in helping to get jops and the chink clips of mainly other holomen got the eops.

Yeah, that's something worth noting. People who weren't around hear she was influential and just immediately assume it was about her speaking English even though that had nothing to do with it. Her big influential contributions at the time were the news, the whole ARK boom and her Yakuza streams that had a very popular clip series on Niconico. Judging by her chat two of those were outright EOP repellant and many others like Matsuri or Suisei had more English in their chats. Meanwhile she was constantly going trending on JP Twitter and shit.

Im pretty much on the belief that Hololive is oversaturated with blondes that its often a debuff now. Notice how most of the low performers are the blondes. Also a lot of them have overlapping characteristics that makes them harder to distinguish from a casual viewer, if someone were to ask you about a Holo that's blonde, big boobed and lewd, would you be able to tell who they are referring to?

As many have said, Nijisanji used to have, not the same, but about 1/4th of the EN clips Holos had back in late 2019, early 2020. EoPs didn't know there were many different companies back then, they just watched funny anime avatar clips.

Except, when you went to the comments, the difference became clear, as most Holo and indy clips were about the clip/streamer or recommending more clips, many of the Niji clips had comments about how "this is why Nijisanji is the best" "Holo fans ruined vtubing", "Ichikara technology is so much better".
That gatekeeping elitism is partially what lead to fewer and fewer Niji clips and fewer people other than them commenting.
There were a lot of other, more important factors of course, but part of the Niji fandom got stuck with that image.

Wonder if we can get clip numbers for this? I just know that the GunKan, Ange, Gibara, Lulu prime was during early 2020 based on those being the most viewed clips.

Not sure what it is but JP fans get filtered on AkiRose really, really hard. Even before the overseas explosion which widened the gaps, she was dead last by a wide margin compared to the next lowest during the New Years outfit relay reveal in January 2020. Kiara doesn't play a lot of games that Pekora plays, she also spends too much time on SC reading, and she doesn't optimize her JRPG playthroughs.

It'd be entirely for the sake of the thing itself. Unlike Twitch, where you really have to be live to get any sort of revenue, Holos are much better served doing idol reps + sponsorship stuff.

Quite a strong showing at the 12 hours mark. I guess the out-of-Hololive collab debuff and the more than 50% Japanese debuff got cancelled out by the earworm electroswing backing track.
300k in 24 hours seems very doable like I predicted, and probably 8-9 days to 1m if I'm being conservative

Hololive is very light on big things in november. Only anniversary is Azki, Lamy + Noel got Birthday, on top of that it's Sports Festival and gen 3 Concert.
Only the sportsfest and gen 3 should be a slam dunk win for the day. There is a lot of open days.

Thanks a lot for the graphs. I was asking for something similar a few days ago under suspicion that the JP branch is in the next stage of transforming from streamer-oriented to idol-oriented.
