Yes/no, sometimes they read them if they pop up during the stream and nothing else is happening, but there's no way to see them during SC reading, so 90+% get lost.
Most people don't stick around for SC readings anyway.

As to why, she maximized meme donations, has a not so common leader personality that made the Tatsunokos follow her lead in a lot of ways, including invent all sorts of other meme donations and she also did long talk sessions where she reads every message and replies.

There are honestly too many things she and her fans brought to the table as far as making SC goes, to list a few:
- the blue flush

Cover was so deadset on not having any grifters in HoloEN gen 2 they ended up with people who didn't even care about numbers or earning. It's good to filter out those who only care about money but you still need some people with the drive to make some. They make money you make money.

Cover seems to approach their hiring with people who show the most potential and have a baseline level of talent and/or dedication.

Sadly, it make sense. There is a cutting point needed no matter if it is 1AM JST or 6AM JST, a stream can't count for two days and you never know if it will peak after the chosen cutting point so this can never be fully avoided

I was actually thinking if there's a way to make teasers work but in all options they would get maybe 15% reach at most.
Also making a short teaser of a 15-30 second video seems meh. It works way better with long productions or full music videos etc.

Remember that most people are fucking lazy on social media and just making them click one extra time or having to go to another website is already a big turnoff lol

Also I rather to build "a brand" on many different platforms than centralize and rely on YouTube which fucked and still fucks animators countless times

Similar to Gura, Kronii has a big global fanbase. It makes sense that her VOD will do better than most, but I didn't think the second best EN vtuber would be a top 3 contender when her CCV is 2/3 of Gura's. Marine is returning, so I doubt Kronii can stay in top 3, but it's safe to say that she is a top 10 resident.
Mito has been declining lately. I take it the nips are bored of her format, so it makes sense that she is seeking overseas fans.

I don't think nijisanji ever had the superchat culture of hololive. Spending in it seems really low, to the point where NijiEN can get on the top easily since the superchat culture in the west is different. And when you see who nijien surpass, you know that nijien isn't exactly more popular than Kanae, Mito, Himawari, Sasaki and others, without even counting voice packs and that kind of stuff.

The most amazing part is as a vtuber matures it seems alternative income streams become more and more important: members, ads/premium, sponsorships, concerts, etc. It's most obvious when the talents explicitly cut back on streams to prepare for concerts, music, etc but it manifests more subtly too. But despite their talents devoting more and more energy to these things the SC income keeps growing.

Nijisanji can fight with hololive with having high numbers here and there but holo already is on another level with their popularity on both japan and overseas. If this was a battle to have more numbers, Nijisanji already lost due to that. Thankfully for them it isn't but in terms of fanboy wars, there's not much outside of big events like 3D debuts, tournaments and special events.

That's mostly because people are dumb and innumerate.
Here is the combined Top 50 for Hololive and Nijisanji for the month of October (filtered by channels with at least 5 streams, sorry Empress Ayame).

With her stats for October Kiara would make into the Top 10 streamer channel for Nijisanji. She's also in the Top 40 of the combined list.

Even graded on a curve Kiara is AT VERY WORSE mid tier.

That was kind of the good part of Hololive's transition into non-stream revenue.
A big criticism the Niji JP fans had in mid 2020 was that the top branch of their Vtubers barely streamed anymore, because they were overworked with concerts, sponsorships and other jobs.
On the other hand, apart from the overbooked Aqua, Hololive's spread out those jobs among most members.
There have been pockets like fall 2020 when Kanata barely got to stream, or this month for Suisei, but then you also get people like Watame who still streamed ~100 hours per month while making an album, PVs for all those songs and preparing a solo live show.
Those mostly being "2nd sting" as far as streaming goes. Unless they have health issues, Pekora, Miko, Subaru and Korone always stream even during those busy weeks.

Holos has better merch. More physical merch tie-in that involves majority if not all of their talents in JP. The Niji merch game is really weak. They are all cheap or digital shit unless you are the top dog. Lower tier Holos casually does those whenever they feel like it. You get them as well in groups as well.
