This is hardly surprising when you've seen how good deepfake videos of real people can get. The only impressive part is the efficiency of creating the model off of a single picture. Anyways it changes nothing because 1 the voice is still way off and 2 even with perfect voice emulation nobody is going to believe a deepfake for long if it isn't on an official youtube channel.

Well, it could be used as a weapon to cancel someone or falsify evidence if they aren't indistinguishable from the real one. I think the general population has at least heard of deepfakes but probably wouldn't be able to tell one apart unless it's really obvious like terrible rendering like you'd see in a bad CGI movie or subject matter. I pretty sure Martha Stewart isn't secretly a Nazi planning to exterminate the jews with her cooking. Bias of believability will determine if they take whatever is posted online at face value or put a little scrutitiny on what is presented as "fact".

Though, twitter doesn't have that filter and is just the modern day digital witch hunt at this point that it probably doesn't matter to them what is fact or fiction. If you hate someone once you're obligated to hate them for life, no matter how much they might have changed as a person because growing up from mistakes doesn't exist on social media.

The biggest indicator of fakeness is actually that it's too animated. Anyone who actually watches vtubers knows that their live2d's are way stiffer than what that thing produces. Gura's iris' don't shrink, nor can her head tilt independently side to side like that. Same with the fubuki example.

Made in to a proper, fully fledged tool for Vtubing it could have all those options and considerably more so.
Riggers, hell, L2D itself, has always been the worst part about L2D. It fucking sucks as a technology. In every single way.
It's a hacky piece of shit that requires way more work than is necessary when lots of the stuff done could be automated away with software and these experiments have only proven such.
The sooner L2D dies, the better for the industry at large.

Thats pretty cool, ive drawn plenty of character designs that are just A posing, i checked out the rigging but its very time consuming. If its a useable tool i could test my stuff out easily and see the characters come alive that would be very helpful.

I’ve done AI work in audio so I had a feeling this was going to eventually happen with vtubers. It’s going to change things in a big way. You’ll be able to create designs by using randomisation and then you refine whatever cool thing it spits out. Rigging will be done for you. More emphasis will be put on the person behind the avatar because everyone will have good rigging. Stars like kson that are carried by their designs and rigging will be fucked.

Look at smartphones these days which have fully optimised because of competition. All good, all look the same, all boring and you can’t really go wrong. What differentiates them? Fucking cameras. The same shit will happen with vtubers. I just don’t know what the ‘camera’ of vtubing will be.

Maybe in a few years, but I don't think it's been done already yet.
Personally I'm still skeptical, maybe to the human eye/ear it will be but I wouldn't be surprised if there were digital signatures you could derive from AI generated works that would make exposing them relatively easy. (E.G. animations being too smooth is a common one you can see with the eye, this would be even more obvious to an AI looking for it)

Reminds me of everyone and their mom screaming about photoshops but anyone who has spent even half a second on such software and tell what is and what isn't photoshop, like a stray pixel or faulty colored seams between the real and fake.
If you're gullible to believe everything on the internet then you're either a boomer who should have died out already, a retarded zoomer who just came in or just retarded.
Besides, it will be a good thing more than bad since if such deepfakes are hard to distinguish people can easily deny all evidence and shit as deepfakes, like how everyone dismiss every damning photographic event as a photoshop.

Deepfakes are already extremely advanced and there's a fair chance most of the politicians, events and people you assume are real don't actually exist. To be blunt I absolutely believe this. The Anon who wrote the "Dead Internet Theory" on wizchan years ago hinted strongly at this.

tl:dr in this case is that the vast majority of celebrities, e-celebs, politicians and events are simply manufactured deepfakes and CGI. Unless you have witnessed an event in person it is impossible to prove it has actually happened, and entire wars and events can just be CGI'd into news and public consciousness by the media pretending and probably not even knowing they are fake.

Motion is also wrong. Real models are much stiffer when they turn, they can't flex their neck as is happening in the example (or at least cover's software can't, maybe other software is better about that).
Not to say that problem isn't insurmountable but this still won't stand up to scrutiny right now.
