I don't think the issue wasn't that Nijisanji didn't need permissions, so much as they were more proactive in getting them than Cover were who privated their VODs or wiped out a shit ton of them once Mio nearly got killed because of Capcom's dumb shit.

Japanese intellectual property laws are more strict than American ones. The idea of streaming being a transformative work wasn't settled case law last I knew.

Twitch is pretty retarded with music permissions. I knew a guy who got a copyright strike from a clip that was already erased because the 60 days passed. I guess they've updated it since Sept 21 where you get a warning now but it's not like they have the structure to handle DMCA until next year last I heard of it.

Selen was crying about how she couldn't even get Naraka permissions for EN even though JP not only got permissions but got a sponsored stream for it.
Nijisanji doesn't have an "easier" time getting permissions due to favoritism, their managers just actually do their jobs.

They don't discourage Selen from playing 90's games that might be difficult to find permissions for and even when they fail at least they communicate with viewers about it. Meanwhile HoloEN is 24/7 Minecraft because Gura's still waiting on a mountain of game permissions from a month ago that Omega hasn't gotten to.
