Lexical categories are absolutely a part of language, and thinking they're fluid enough that you can throw them out the window at your convenience is retarded. 'Exciting' *is* an adjective, and that's the only format it takes; 'cringe' is either a verb or (rarely) a noun, it was and never will be an adjective. You already have "cringy" and "cringe-worthy" as adjectives. The entire point of words as a monolithic construct is lost if you use all of them with no consideration to lexical category or placement.
