>>12937316>>12937639The difference between ecelebs and vtubers is the disconnect from the vtuber's real identity. The difference can be seen in 1) the streamer's narcissism and 2) the self-awareness of the audience.
Virtually any big eceleb is a massive narcissist. The vtuber can be more or less pathetic than the eceleb if they mentally self-insert as the character and experience a sort of roleplay narcissism (more pathetic) or stay sensible and maintain the disconnect (less pathetic).
The average eceleb follower is a lonely, unpopular child/young adult in need of friend surrogates. The vtuber audience swings both more and less pathetic than this. The chuuba enjoyer can delude themselves into a friend/gf sim with a cartoon (more pathetic, and also notably the original and authentic japanese vtuber experience that oldfags must defend) or less pathetic in that the cartoon avatar is a constant reminder to the self-aware that they are watching an entertainer, not their long-distance friend/gf (this is, ironically, an invasion of the newfag/western perspective on the original "virtual idol" chan culture around vtubers).
The narcissism especially I think plays a large part with many anons regardless of where they fall on the more/less pathetic scale. Everyone is sick of Markiplier and Logan Paul, that one deformed Irishman and the infinite pit of Twitch thots plastering their faces on everything. This is the most irritating aspect of an eceleb, and chuubas cut it out entirely while maintaining all the remaining appeal of an eceleb (and ecelebs DO have appeal, people naturally seek out idols).
