i'd say the amount of people who enjoy being talked to by strangers and the people who dread it is around 50/50, which still means there's a 50% chance you're making someone uncomfortable. especially for celebrities, who already live so much of their lives in the public eye, it might be unbelievably exhausting to feel obligated to 'perform' that role even in their off time.
for vtubers in particular, you aren't supposed to know their faces. you'd just be outing yourself as the type of creep who's so invested that you look up and consume their roommate shit, and it would just make you seem like a stalker.

The funny part is that in Mori's case it's not even hard to stubble upon her irl persona, lol.

Mori for sure, given her music videos and live performances from her past life are freely available on youtube. Same for Kiara as well I imagine. The rest of HoloEN aren't as open about that stuff so I imagine if you 'bumped into' one of them they'd be more uncomfortable about it.

You haven't seen a single Mori stream if you think she would be fine with meeting a fan on the street. The problem with a fan meeting you in public is the chances of it actually being a completely random encounter are almost nonexistent. Every single chuuba would rightfully assume the fan had followed them there, or somehow knew they were going to be there, was stalking them, etc. Apparently the only person this doesn't apply to is Kiara who told her fans which convention she was going to, what time it was, and where it was located specifically so she could do impromptu meet and greets with her, which I respect but it was also kinda fucking stupid.

I saw Mori at a konbini in Tokyo yesterday. I told her how cool it was to meet her in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother her and ask her for photos or anything. She said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?” I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but she kept cutting me off and going “guh? guh? guh?” and closing her hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard her chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw her trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen onigiri in her hands without paying.

The guy at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Okyakusama, you need to pay for those first.” At first she kept pretending to be tired and not hear him, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.

When he took one of the onigiri and started scanning it multiple times, she stopped him and told him to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After he scanned each onigiri and put them in a bag and started to say the price, she kept interrupting him by yawning really loudly.

Yeah, I had the exact same thought. It checks out for Mori and Kiara, and any other Vtubers who have an active PL. Greeting them just as the PL gives them the freedom to deny anything they don’t want to say to some random fucker on the street. And ending it off with a ‘I like your other work too’ as a parting remark shows you’re a fan without going into uncomfortable territory.
