I don't know why this and its variants annoy me so fucking much. うんうん also annoys vtubers enough that they put not to say it in their rules sometimes. Imagine if an English chat kept spamming "Mmhmm" as a repetitive wall of text while a vtuber is talking about random shit.

I'm not saying that. I've seen the worst of japanese comments since someone I watch got burned recently. I'm saying their comments hurt my eyes and I want to know who I should be sending strongly worded letters to, in case someone's teaching them all to say it like this.

I would love if you could point me towards an example of a streamer asking people not to do this. It's meant to be analogous to nodding your head while someone is speaking to indicate you're paying attention. I've never once seen a streamers get mad at:

There is a difference between 感謝 and ありがとう but it's minimal. You could think of the former as being more formal/polite but that isn't necessarily a good thing. 感謝 is close to ありがたい if anything so that might be why you don't see it too often. I've only heard one Vtuber use 感謝 to thank superchats and he's kind of a quiet and reserved guy so like most ways of speaking it can come down to personality.
