Numbers being a focus for chuubas makes sense because it directly impacts their income and is a general measurement of their success (which, before someone tries to say so, is NOT the same as quality. Plenty of garbage is successful, plenty of great things go unknown for years.)
It's like saying you can only like the biggest pop stars because smaller bands wish they would make it big. That's just retarded.

You don't get the issue. Numberfags are retards that mostly care about muh big numbers for things like subs because they are competing against other numberfags, even when they are dead subs. What the vtuber cares about is the bottom line, the money they are actually making from their job. Your oshi makes a big deal about subs because it is a milestone event that they can possibly milk the fans for more superchat money. It is always about the money in the end.

They did it for the money ofc while enjoying the job themselves. But numbers are important not for milking gachi, it's to show sponsors an indicative of your popularity and selfbrand value. If you are one of the retards who think SC or donations are their main income, then you are an idiot. This aint twitch where they mainly depend on donation, the big money for them came mainly from sponsors, shilling, events, merchs, and other sources (ex. Nene VA anime as Nene). Shilling alone can give them more money than their annual SC earning. So yes, numbers are important for these reasons.
