Most of their fame came with clips, Matsuri with the bandage, Haachama with all the feet and weird stuff and Fubuki with meme clips and scatman. Is not like they were doing bad before, but in some point their career turned 180º when they decided to go for this route, especially Haachama where her change was the most notorious one.

Eh, that one's debatable due to how some of the doofy Gen 1 sprites can be questionable.
The REAL fuckup is the Caterpie/Venomoth line, with the final evos inexplicably swapping all anesthetics, such as Venonat's floppy feet, little hands, Purple Body, Compound eyes and antanae all being on Butterfree, while Caterpie's larval body, along with Metapod's wide eyes and pronged horn being on Venomoth.
Shit is blatant as fuck, but I have no idea why they swapped them.
