The West suffers from economic self-entitlement while the East suffers from social self-entitlement. This is why Westerners are viewed as weak and effeminate when it comes to work and why Easterners are viewed as weak and effeminate when it comes to social matters. Social heuristics like these that arose during times when overstepping was a matter of life or death are like vestigial appendages. The strong (like Ayame) will violate them and rise above. The weak (you) that cling onto them, hoping to be merely given what they have not themselves earned, will remain below.
