If I can believe that she loves me even a little bit it means that it's possible to love me, and that makes all the rest of the lack of love meaningless because I know it's possible, I just have to work on it. If there's none, then it's very easy to believe "I'm not lovable no matter what", and I think that for a lot of guys when that becomes how we see ourselves we break down. As long as I can believe that I can be loved all the work I put into being better is worthwhile. The minute I believe the world is cold no matter what I do, all the effort just looks completely meaningless.
