Imagine that in addition to calling itself the "Republic of America", the Texan government claimed that it is the sole, legitimate government of all of the other 49 US states, and maintained that the government of the "United States of America" is illegitimate. The Taiwanese government (the "Republic of China") considers itself the sole, legitimate government of the entirety of "China", including the mainland. Most Taiwanese people realize that it is a bit of a crazy claim to make in 2021, especially the younger generation. Yet the claim remains in their constitution, and the Taiwanese government officially maintains it for reasons.
Demanding that non-Chinese internet celebrities understand the ins-and-outs of that nuance is ridiculous, and I will never stop supporting this wonderful woman.
