Alright /vt/, I'm curious... which of these do you prefer?

>Vtubers who incorporate aspects of their real life into their streams to varying degrees
>Vtubers who try to be as immersive as possible in their role, and talk little of their personal lives (i.e. I really am 500 years old and/or a sentient computer virus)

Personally I'm starting to enjoy the former a bit more, as they tend to be a lot more laid back.

I like the types that can be what they want without forcing it. Be that good acting or just naturally themselves doesn't really matter. It'll be healthiest for them on the long run if they're comfortable with what they're doing.

i like the how when mori talks about her past she still tries to frame everything within her personal lore even if it does stretch thin at times.
i think it would be very difficult for a vtuber to maintain the kayfabe 100% of the time especially if their character is non-human or centuries old

Ideally any of the vtubers should concentrate on what they find the most fun for themselves. It might not mean huge numbers, but at least they'll be comfortable, and hopefully gives them a fanbase that that has similar taste.

the big advantage of a vtuber as opposed to a normal streamer is that they can choose what aspects of real life to copy to their character, and what things to keep separate
the chuuba/roommate barrier isn't there to prevent all real life from touching the character, it's to let them be deliberate about what to bring over to the other side

Basically this. The problem with kayfabe is that you have to keep expanding on it or you get dull and cringe. Even those who prefer the kayfabe know they're watching the streamer to be entertained by what the streamer is interested in or likes to do, so for many of them it is not having to face breaking an illusion that they're talking to a dog girl or whatever.

This pretty much. Though I always enjoy it when they share some bits of their life. If a vtuber's character is such that you could replace the person playing their role with another person who has the same voice and stays in character just the same, then they'd be a bit unrelatable.
