2hu has a bunch of characters that fans can use and abuse to their heart's content without ever having to worry about a lawsuit. Also, completely fictional character just lend themselves better to otaku, as an otaku's love for a drawing is pure, wholesome, and unmarred by any expectation that he'll part ways with his money.
2hu is like MLP was in the west, except the characters are human (aka less filtering), the lore is deeper, and it hasn't devolved into globohomo propaganda because the very nature of 2hu is rooted in traditional Japanese culture and spirituality.
Lazy e-beggars simply can't compete without going full chuuni and building themselves up as AKSHUAL serious anime characters without a hint of irony. After all, Youkai Jesus isn't ironically Youkai Jesus. She just is. That's why 2hu will forever remain a treasured enclave of otakudom. At the end of the day, a true otaku yearns to witness grand adventures interwoven with deepest lore.
You can also play 2hu games whenever you want, while chubas only have a limited ability to play games with people. That's a limit humans simply can't surpass right now.
