Subaru has been around for years and only very recently has she started to dominate. Same thing. She’s Japanese and was working alongside people who DO hit those things you listed, so it’s not difficult to pick up on the culture when you’re surrounded by it for 3-4 consecutive years, in a company that drills it into you. Add a hardworking, positive and curious attitude and it’s no wonder she’s where she is.

She (acts) like she rolls with it, and her popularity is tied up with that weird voice of hers, but no girl wants to be told they sound like a fucking duck, especially when she's surrounded by sweet sounding VA's all the time and has to put in extra extra extra effort into her singing.
That whole duck shit most likely hurt her a lot, and she's still trying to come to terms with it though she hides it very well.

I mean her real voice, the one that slips out during off collabs when they have to position her furthest from the shared mic because she's too fucking loud.
If she's conventionally pretty irl then her self-esteem wouldn't have allowed her to attempt the idol thing, besides they're literally highend whores that all have to pass a casting couch anyway so it takes a certain kind of fame hungry girl willing to whore themselves out for 15mins of fame.

after being a vtuber, she however tried hard to be an idol to live up to her fans yagoo and cover, and cultivated her talent in being an idol as well, and it was totally successful. shes inherently a talented person. youd know it but her 3D moves are incredibly fucking catchy and adorable. not like anyone else can imitate it.

That's a really good point. She rolls with it, but it still has to hurt. Kind of like a class clown running with some degoratory nickname. Except she's far too much of a straight girl to be a clown.

IIRC, she was pretty resistant about adding the duck plushy to her merch, too.

(I still got it alongside the acryl stand, but hey)

For all that she rolls with and even profits from it, I imagine she'd prefer a more conventional voice and no duck memes about her.

Subaru's like that one MMO player that grinded to level 99 in the starting zone, she's pretty savvy on doing her reps and is great at fostering her multi language fanbases.
A good example is when that dancing duck with her hat went viral, she started using her normal tomboy outfit model so people would associate the two, there's also the english translation she does during her zatsus.

And quite frankly, she's literally the pillar of Gen 2, the rest of em fell off or barely stream.
