I've seen it in a few of the channels I watch but not nearly in the degree that it gets in Miko's channel.

But yeah, it's really really dumb to not be able to gift a membership to someone or to do it randomly on Youtube.

You not only give the streamer money but you also make it more likely that the one gifted the membership will continue it (giving the streamer more money) and making the community stronger by growing the amount of members. It's like an absolute brain dead decision and Twitch integrated it like two years ago and Youtube still has done fuck all to implement anything like it.

I'm not very familiar with Twitch but in gifting subs basically the same as donating/Superchats on Youtube? Does the streamer get a bigger cut of the money or something?

No, superchats are like bits (or streamlab donations).

Gifting subs means you are giving another person membership (so access to member emotes, member streams, etc).

chat culture differences aside I do prefer the fact that the twitch mobile app actually lets you listen to streams while its closed and that your emotes actually carry over between chats. Also I hate that youtube still tries to serve you ads on channels you have membership for.
Only thing I'd be worried about is randos showing up in twitch chat and trolling at a way higher rate than on youtube, but that can probably be managed with good moderation.

Honestly the things that twitch has over youtube is that it doesn't get bugged as often, the mobile version is good to do other stuff while watching and has a better resolution for emotes.
The thing that I really hate about twitch is how horrible chats are, vods getting deleted on the long run and how the userbase and the staff try to get you on retarded political talks.

If you gifted 5 subs the streamer gets the same amount of money as if 5 different people subbed by themselves but it brings in viewers who may not have had the opportunity to sub, to convert them. Twitch also has 1 free sub to any channel you want if you're one of the millions of sorry saps who use Amazon Prime. There's a small cut of money with those subs. If you have a good enough ratio of regular paid subs and Twitch subs you get better cuts overall.

I like the theater mode, you can see both streamer and chat well and also switch tabs.
Youtube interface is bad because you either don't have chat or have to watch stream in a tiny window.

The standard Twitch partner contract doesn't say you can't stream elsewhere (only that they have 24 hour exclusive rights to anything you do stream to Twitch), she is a partner, and even if she wasn't a partner she could still make money from ads through the affiliate program.

People still do karaoke streams on Twitch, especially vtubers and japanese streamers. It's pretty much only english music that was hit by the DMCA. The only music they couldn't sing are songs that they already have to do unarchived streams for anyway. Normal karaoke streams would be completely unaffected.

I HATE that for some fucking reason I can't type properly in the chat sometime, it's like having a virtually stroke or something.
