Perhaps top 10% but not the top 0.1%. Kind of hard to be that good when you have the handicap of having to use half your hardware and bandwidth to stream at the same time you are playing. Not to mention that your going to have to interact with chat instead of focusing on the game.

Suisei is the best tetris player among chuubas but a top 0.1% player is too much of a stretch. She lasted like 10s against Amemiya in an NHK demonstration. To be fair, she did make uncharacteristic mistakes but it would probably just extend her battle by 5s more.

Its not the top 0.1% of 7 billion people on Earth its the small number of people playing a particular thing seriously enough to merit ranking and then looking for the absolute best at it AND expecting them to be a notable Youtuber. Nekomiya Hinata was better than most pros in PUBG back in the golden years of her channel. I took a break from chuubas some time ago and when I came back her channel was almost dead and she was making silly videos with a blue cat, I never understood what happened because I missed just too much of her content and most of it isn't subbed so I've to guess half of the time, if anyone knows what really happened I'd like to know. Anyways, she is good at least with TPS games so I'd recommend to keep an eye on her, who knows when she decides to make a PUBG comeback.

Thats sorta the point. If Amemiya never watched Suisei at all, he'd never be able to tell her skill apart from the scrubs he regularly demolishes. Suisei is not at the 0.1% level where its expected that the best would acknowledge your skill without a qualifier. Amemiya considers Suisei is amazing at Tetris 'for an entertainer'

Ah, pic related though, he was playing on the JP servers, so even if he was a pro, it’s arguable whether he’s actually top 0.1% or not, especially when you include Korea. A team of NA challengers would probably be stronger than JP pros with a bit of practice. That said, challenger is 0.01% in League and GM is like 0.02%, so it depends.

Also, speedruns are sort of inconsistent for determining skill level in the first place because the general skill floor is so low, and submitted runs too high.

Like Aqua’s sekiro run is 50th out of 54 runs. The fastest run is sub 21, and a lot more people sure as hell can get sub 51 on Shura since its not like IS. Similarly for Muse Dash, the ceiling is too low for a rhythm game. There’s too many people who can FC 11* which means theres no way to differentiate when you’re asking for 0.1%. In beatmania, the ceiling is high, but each player can be better or worse depending on what song they play, so it’s hard to tell if one player that’s 0.1% in a song would be the same in other songs. When you’re high enough there it won’t matter though.

On the same episode of that same show, Amemiya also destroyed another professional Tetris player with a 100+ unbroken win streak and 3000 Elo in Puyopuyo Tetris in less than 30 seconds. Her performance against Amemiya isn't really indicative of a lack of skill on her part because Amemiya is probably the best Tetris player currently living, and he shits in the mouth of everyone except for his near peers. That being said, I am not saying that Suisei is a professional-level player or that she could ever hope to beat Amemiya in any kind of fair match; she is not and could not. But while Suisei isn't a professional, she IS about as good as anyone could be at the game without being a professional. She is in fact an example of a vtuber who is actually good at at least one game.

Alot of NA/EU/KR pros talked down on JP because the server was so small and insular (this was years ago) so getting challenger there was easy as shit compared to literally anywhere else except maybe LatAm.

Suisei wouldn't be top 200 in Tetris. That said, that's why top percentile can sometimes be sort of a joke when your game is too casual. If you had 100m players who have touched Tetris before, you only need to be top 100k to be 0.1%, which she passes handily.

Gura is also, relatively to other Holo girls, a very fast learner that compensates for her below-average game sense. I hope she finds a game she's passionate about enough that she would speedrun it. She's clearly flirted with the idea many times before, and has the mechanical skill and the repetition/optimization mindset to be a competent speedrunner in general.
