Based from the last stream, The Journey EP will probably determine whether or not we will get a new EP after 6 months. She's doing better promoting the song and I know that it ranked #1 in Ototoy and Mora. Itunes though only has the song hitting #1 in TW and Hong Kong. I also learned that her merch was probably a joint thing with management. It doesn't seem she had an input into her own merch as well. She had a comment about wondering where she can even buy a cassette/vinyl player. This probably means that management is dipping into the profit of her merch as well to fund her Music. I don't know about SCs though but for sure all streaming platform profits will also be redirected to her music projects. Maybe she will get a cut. I hope so.

She's still not that good at promotion... And of course profits from the EP don't go straight to her. Cover is the one producing it. From how she used to talk about memberships and SCs there's nothing to indicate that she doesn't get the standard cut just like everyone else.

What's the difference between INNK and project hope in your words then? Aren't they the same? They have different production teams with the main hololive branch. So much that it turned suisei to a gen 0 hololive main, because production cared more for azki. Project hope is another INNK in disguised, the only thing that irys differ from what azki was doing, was her constant stream to shill herself. More freedom but it doesn't change the fact that what was written on irys contract could meddle with production operation. There's no reason to believe she wouldn't. Why would someone who's not a complete amateur accept a contract to sing without getting any of the profits from doing it? Even if you don't think she's getting the usual 50/50 rate she and other Hololive members get from their SCs, she's still at least getting paid at least the standard artist signed to a label rates.

I don't really get the difference between anime/idol music and just regular J-Pop/J-Rock. To me the latter half of Journey is the best part by far and is where the EP comes into its own. Nameless Sadness hits home, Sink Again Rise Again hits home, Flower of Hope has a very satisfying piano arrangement i wish for a UtaNashi ver.
Bare Your Teeth makes me think she should take her meds, and the other songs are not remarkable beyond IRyS' voice.
My main problem in trying to like IRyS' works even before hololive is that they sound like anisongs or the popular J-rock which sounds soulless.
At some point her singing reminded me of "KISHIDA KYODAN & THE AKEBOSI ROCKETS". Good album overall.

The thing is celebration merch has always been a personal decision by Hololive talents, The only person I am not aware of is Azki who is incidentally is also the other Vsinger. Sure Cover would release merch attached to songs like they did with Umisea or Dawn Blue but you know in the outset that they are funded by Cover and that profits from that are just their way of getting back their investment. BUT celebration merch has always been a separate thing where the talents MOSTLY gets the bulk of the profit. Lamy even explained that the talents themselves can foot the some of the initial cost so that they can get a bigger cut of the pie. Irys not getting that option feels wrong to me. Now we don't exactly know how the distribution will go, maybe she will get a full cut on the key chain and only get a partial on the cassettes, vinyl and CD since they have the songs in them. I hope it's not going to be the same when her Birthday merch drops.

Help me understand the numberfagging, is this a uniquely Japanese thing? What drives someone to loop her songs on Spotify like that? Can one person even make a difference and if so how? I imagine she's only making pennies (assuming she gets any money at all) so there's no monetary benefit. Is it an exposure thing? Does one person looping her songs for an eternity like that actually do anything?

I like the EP enough to play it on repeat. If the metrics show the EP doing well it obviously gives signals to management.
Sure a single person repeat is just a drop in the bucket, but if I can choose between given it no visible listens vs 1 listen then I will go for the latter option.

Just sharing my experience as a Kpop stan who witnessed some number manipulation events hosted by fellow fans but yea, mostly it's with a good intention to make their faves happy although is tailored in a way that makes every streams count. Isn't that how BTS made it to Billboard thingy in the first place? Multiple accounts to boost up votes and such.

Though, maybe, her songs are also good enough to warrant some loops. I like this ep better than her debut ep.

I don't think you'll find anyone disagreeing. It's a very solid EP. Arrangement of every song is very nice and EP does have a theme and story, songs nicely flow into each other. I still have an issue with awkward sounding lyrics but it can't be helped. She can say anything and it will still sound sweet and lovely, but when she sings it turns divine.

If you can help raising her numbers in an effortless way of looping her songs on Spotify or giving her views on Youtube (not applicable here yet), why not? It's applicable and they probably do care about Youtube Music, but I bet the one they care about the least. I don't know the exact rates of payout for Spotify and Youtube Music but if we assume they're comparable, the Spotify listens are more important because Topic channel views stop mattering from a publicity perspective once the MVs are out while the Spotify listens will be visible forever.

Well, she did stress out how if you're buying a CD, you might as well get the cassette too, an if you're already 2/3 way in, why not go all the way and get the vinyl too..? Merch sales are obviously very important.
