A quick search shows a ton of indies have played it. JP agencies wont touch it because no one to ask for permissions and VShojo wont touch it because 4chan.

You can disable adult content (there aren’t much of them anyway)
But I think the real reason is that they don’t play a lot of VN of any type, beside DDLC. And if they play DDLC it’s only because of the memes and because it’s short

Another possible reason is that contacting the game devs to ask for permission must a struggle since the team split up and moved on. And the default license (No commercial, No derivative) explicitly forbid streaming.

I remember it ok, though it’s been 10 years since I’ve played it. I went for Hanako’s route and then did Emi’s. I think I propped it up more than I should have because I was barely out of high school and thought a VN from 4chan about broken girls would make me feel. Give it a shot. It sounds like a 4chan meme and an ironic bishoujo full of fetishes. But it’s a legit bishoujo that take itself seriously and it’s actually somewhat well written, with the advantage that it doesn’t rely on a string of over-used Japanese VN tropes, but reads instead like an actually well-written story while still being a bit amateurish here and there. Unironically no other (non-translated) English VN could even be considered as good as Katawa Shoujo. (VN translated from Japanese are still much better, even when they rely on over-used tropes) Because all English VN are indies and none of them had good writers.

I played it back when it was new and it wasn't even good. The main character ends up turning into a whiny clingy bitch in most of the routes. A lot of it felt like it was written by/for women, but I don't know for sure if that's the case.
