>>16849808His viewers are like 90% Chinese and Japanese girls with some Korean/SEA in there too. The support comes from the fact Nijisanji already has millions of fujo fans in Japan so they are the base from which the other Easterners come in.
That and the fact kpop was basically banned in China like 2 months before they debuted and tons of mainland chinese girls have been branching into alternative. Tons of those NTD """taiwanese""" viewers are mainlanders on VPN, they almost all use Taiwan to connect to the outside world (this is what caused coco taiwangate in the first place, a mistaken impression Taiwan itself is doing all of it when it's taiwan+mainland).
This is a strange kind of success, definitely not what Anikara had in mind. Objectively they haven't actually taken on much in the West like it or not, so people saying they'd fail thinking as in the West (and that the east wouldn't give a shit) were right. However the Eastern audience totally propped them up. This is a win the same sense as saying David Hasselhoff is one of the best singers ever because, for some reason, Germany loves him as a musician. I guess that rings true if you're a German, but in the US nobody would say that.
It also IMO does not bode well for any attempts Cover would have at a starsEN because it's literally asking China to come watch Cover talents and otherwise tapping into the utterly massive pre-existing holostarsJP fanbase that gets all of like 200 viewers a stream. They can try but this is a strange case of right place/time for Luxiem I think and I dunno if it'll continue as a trend. To me this Chinese audience that is like 40% of Luxiem's support right now are like 2019 Western Hololive fans, they love the idea and content but would more naturally gravitate towards something in their own language.. and eventually a native CN company (or taiwanese rather to avoid the super-restrictive mainland laws about vtubing) will distract this newfound audiences' interest, but we'll just have to wait and see.
