Excluding the break (and excluding her monetization as an extreme outlier) her average is around $8k per day. So, Ame said in her member zatsu that she thinks HoloEN could use more clear direction from up top to keep them moving forward.

Since this thread always likes to play armchair manager, what would you do if you were the one tasked with setting the direction for HoloEN? Keep in mind that anything you try and implement would have to be something the girls wouldn't balk over themselves, so you can't just turn them into a content farm and call it a day.

If you are really bad at playing it (Like Kuzuha and Ibrahim when they played) you will get a buff still but not by so much.

The gacha aspect with the cards it's a giant buff tho. Chaika went from a usual 2k to 8k and Natsume went from 1-2k to fucking 13k

Same was the case for Mysta, significantly lower memberships that expected given their CCV. It's these kinds of stats combined with the overall composition of their viewership that really make me doubt a Stars EN would be anything other than a dud, but apparently we're not seeing something that Cover thinks they can.

Kinda hard to set a goal for them honestly. Their inital goal when HoloEN started was just to get 100k by the end of the year and they blew that away by their first day. I assume that the next one they had was 3d and for some even performing on stage. Depending on how much hopium you've inhaled, both might be within reach in march. So what's next? Vtubing is still niche so they're never gonna get the kind of work that HoloJP has (sponsorship that isn't just shill streams and minor appearances, anime cameos, etc). Their path forward, I think, is to do what FBK did and just keep streaming and reaching out, as nebulous as an advice as that might sound. They need to extend the reach of vtubers so that they're not stuck as just another streamer group. The fact that the JP talents embraced the whole Idol larp really worked for them but I don't think EN can enivision themselves as "idols". Maybe Holofes kickstarts that whole process for them.

Honestly fun projects like Miko's/Korone's 24 hour stream. Something to reinforce togetherness or something they can feel pride in. Maybe have a tourny or two, the mahjong ones Nijisanji has are great. Maybe 3D skits like both companies have, something very structured. People tell me HoloEN 3D is very unstructured.

Here is a take that will likely go against the grain

Up until June 2020 I doubt Cover, overall, had more than 20 people in managerial positions.

Fucking Tanigo, the CEO of the company, managed personally Holostars until they found one (1) person to take over the role.
The girls clearly self managed except when people assigned to manage them were busy stalking and sexually harassing them (see: Mel).

And yet the girls, with all the freedom that lack of management and direction gave them, managed to go toe to toe with the largest vtuber companies in the world (Nijisanji, Upd8, .LIVE) and eventually managed to supplant them for an unconstested #1 worldwide position.

Then and only then HoloEN was founded, resting on GINORMOUS shoulders. If streamers in the fucking EN market are waiting for japanese managers to tell them what they are supposed to be doing to at very least match their japanese counterpart in a market they know A WHOLE LOT FUCKING BETTER than clueless boomer and GenX nips they should hand their resignation letters and do the company a favor by killing themselves on streams for the numbers.

If Coco, Miko, Aqua, Pekora or even fucking Subaru can figure out what they can do to attract an audience and prosper even after losing the biggest foreign market they had (China) in the absence of any clear direction from management (which only started getting serious more or less after December 2020) EN girls can too and if they can't they are better off graduated and replaced

It's a vicious cycle unfortunately. It wasn't always like this though. A few months ago, the thread kind of reached a perfect balance whenever Kuzuha won the day but the Holo's dominated everything else. It gave off the feel that Hololive still dominated which placated the holofags but Nijisanji still had arguably the number 1 or 2 Vtuber (as per CCV) which put Nijinigs at ease. Everything went downhill after Kuzuha started to recline and Holo just dominated point blank. The period from Holox debuts to when CCVid got spotted was arguably the worse ass whooping that the thread had seen. With nothing to keep nijinigs at ease, shitposting and EN vs JP loops became more prevalent. Threads a lot calmer now though.

Again, because it is. It's Ame putting together a bunch of assets, calling everybody in and organizing a VRChat collab with eleven people by herself.

In a normal JP 3D collab, they would all be in the studio with Cover staff assisting and with a schedule of events/bits to run through over the course of the stream.

The reason EN needs direction from management is specifically to help them get more structure and organization that they otherwise should be doing for themselves like Kiara.

Even something as simple as trying to help better distribute streams across NA primetime so that you don't end up with clusters of four girls streaming buff games on top of each other one day followed by nobody streaming in prime time the next would be an improvement.

If EN girls are too retarded to have a shared calendar (like Gen 3 has) and schedule their streams according to their strengths and needs

If coordinating a schedule with your coworkers is the job of a management team what the fuck are the girls being paid to do? They're not fucking actors being handed a script to read, they're streamers, their job is to figure out how to stream efficiently.

The only criticism I accept for EN management is that they are not pushing hard enough for permissions.
In the way intellectual property is structured there is no way to secure worldwide permission for any property, as copyright is inherently a national law matter.
That means JP management will OBVIOUSLY prioritize getting JP permission and it is also OBVIOUS that EN need to secure their own permission for their own market, which they are clearly not doing it right.

Other than that any shortcoming attributed to management clearly rest on the girls shoulder for being too dumb to do the job they were hired to do.

Not to spit on Kiara, but she rely a lot on her manager, Jenma, for a lot of the stuff she organizes, which is great, that's why she's here, but let's not pretend Kiara does all of that by herself.
To be honest, I feel like she's the only one who uses the ressources at hand properly, she rely on her manager a lot, and she uses the staff in hololive to do the translations for the clip she put in holotalk instead of doing it herself. Even for her shrine stream with the Hololive application (another good example of her usage of Hololive ressource), she asked them to do the translation for her instead of translating it on the fly.

This is the main problem with EN and it's fanbase. It's this misconception that Management is responsible foe their own career direction. Like this anon >>16984174 said, it was never on management hands to decide the direction they took.
Hololive is a resource (includig the management) and the talents are the, well TALENTS. They decide which direction THEY themselves wants to took cause it's their fucking time and energy that'll be spent on pursuing it.
Suisei and Watame goals are to be a solo singer/idol, hence they make use of holo's connecton and resources, put their energy, time, and money into that goal.
Pekora and Miko wants to be the best streamer, hence they put all their energy into grinding for hours and always tryna come up with fun contents.
Aqua and Sora wants to be idol hence all their time and enery went to do idol reps
Etc.

It's not in management position nor right to decide the route the talents wants to walk on. If Ame doesnt know in which direction she wants her career to go, then fucking figure it out yourself!

With that said there are obvious shortcomings on EN management including being more assertive with acquiring permissions when possible.
None of those shortcomings are responsible for the low output from most of the EN branch in the past few months.
Take Minecraft, for instance: the whole JP side made a huge deal about making the EN girls welcome through the newly made portal connecting both servers, including a very high profile relaty and a whole arc involving making preparations.

EN side not only winged their side of the portal but all but dropped the game in the following weeks.
How dumb can that be: the buffiest game of the company, one that requires zero permission, one that every single girl has installed and have at very least one stream playing it and they just say

Recruit dedicated production teams who act under direction from the talents themselves to get their ideas done. It'd be a disaster to encourage content control from the management side especially at such a late juncture, so do the opposite, massively improve the content support structure under talents' direction. Talents set creative direction, production staff do problem solving including untangling permissions and other roadblocks, and the result appears like magic to the audience. Cover is perfectly capable of putting together good project management, HoloGra is the perfect example of a production team that consistently pumps out 1-mil view videos with nothing but voiceover input. Likewise, their concert production crew is quite good. A-Chan's main channel skits are just one of many things she does and she's just one person. Polka's series functions on a single intern. Omega is... yeah. I don't see the same from EN staff yet and that's the current problem. Extend this to the whole company, have one production team per generation, and recruit them at the same time as auditions so that future gens get used to the idea of having a content support staff rather than just managers.
I don't think there will be immediate results but a steady march to media production company rather than streamer management is necessary for long-term success at this scale.

That's one of the things I hope Matsuri has noticed. A lot of the fps chuubas stream at night, doing all night sessions or primetime stuff. There's loads of space for streams and viewership during the day that goes way underserved. Many times Towa has gotten up in the morning since she has to do holo recording things during the day, looked for people to play some shooty bang bang with and discovered that they're all just going to bed.

I feel like a lot of the numbers comes down to positioning in relation to EN and unicorns/gachikois. Ultimately, these seem like different long-term strategies with different priorities. Cover is better at immediate extraction of capital from its highest paying fans while Anycolor is better at culture and platform building (in Japan). I'm not really interested in the short term fluctuations but I'm very curious to see how these two companies' strategies develop.

Well, I'd say that as a single 'brand', Nijisanji can definitely pull its weight in its big events, but that success not translating back into every-day numbers (in part due to the large number of talents that facilitate the brand spread) is a bit of a difficult problem to address. It's not nearly as dire as some anons here would make it look like, but the graphs don't lie when it showed a consistent decline for the everyday numbers through 2021.

Hololive's box is stronger than Nijisanji's box, by a large margin. This tells me that Cover is actually the ones with the audience who will watch whoever is live, who show up to events even if their favorite isn't there, who are less likely to ditch if someone they aren't familiar with is on the screen. I think this goes directly against the thesis that Cover has a bunch of talent-specific superfans and rather shows that they're cultivating a generalized fanbase of Hololive as a whole, and I think this applies to both the JP and EN branches. For whatever reason, the "different appeals" point for Niji hasn't actually resulted in a "generalized and shared fan community" but rather multiple specialized communities that really only show up as Niji fans as a whole during company-wide events.
Now, I personally don't think this has anything to do with company strategy and is mostly about how the talents/livers have grown their own personal brands, but the result is the same. Hololive talents have managed to grow a general audience while still retaining specific audiences for each channel, but Nijisanji livers less so. And this is because HL have enough similarities that fans are willing to show up elsewhere, while more diverse appeals of each Niji liver may grow a larger overall audience (JP only atm) but that audience doesn't cross between livers as easily.
You see a similar thing in 3D streamer cliques, or even in YT audiences, so I'm pretty confident. Similar appeals will share audiences, whether it's within frequent collab groups or just in similar content niches, while the more someone diverges the less audience they share even if they're associated in some way.

I think the most telling part of your point is that Hololive can have anywhere from 70k-110k total during primetime but 3D lives usually get 60k-100k. That implies people who'd normally watch their favorite are now watching the 3D live no one is streaming over. Nijisanji? Lucky to get 50k at primetime with everyone streaming but they get 120k+ easily with big events. One shows a general audience and the other shows a splintered fanbase.

VSPO basically switched from the Niji, mini groups of 3 model, to the company wide box push of Hololive.
Not like they weren't playing together between groups before, but the box is about Unity and making the brand name known. The VSPO girls were mostly known for their group names or as individuals before 2021.

Niji also still has this problem, where even long time watchers end up with the awkward question of "wait, that person is in Nijisanji?".

There used to be someone who did a top 100 original song weekly list. Basically it was Toko's original around #35-40, a few Chronoir songs around #28-30, and the best ranking original for Nijisanji was almost almost Sister Claire's Dogma, around #20-25. Companies only pay taxes on profits, so it wouldn't matter either way.

But typical GAAP means they DO have to report full sales (and likely even SC and other YT income) as revenue before paying it out to contractors as expenses. Would need to see the actual contracts to be sure there isn't a way to escape that.

I have a feeling most of the talents' payouts are accounted for in COGS, even though that feels wrong according to what I've been taught. Nothing else on the income statement makes sense. If they really do manage to bypass reporting talent cut on their income statement then the company is even more absurdly profitable. But COGS seems likely.

I don't want to bother calculating SC for the specific 12mo period but using 2020 SC to estimate, if the talent SC cut truly is 50% after YT's 30% then talent's SC expense would be about 6 million. Speculative numbers but at the same cut let's say 5 mil in ads, 5 mil in members. Since Cover takes the same amount, that would be 32 mil in revenue and 16 mil in gross profit for the year. Cover's gross profit is only about 25 million for that period so if they are only making 9 million gross profit from merch+sponsors that's pretty pathetic. This supports the conclusion that the merch revenue share is generous to the talents, and also supports the hypothesis that cut might actually be higher than 50% for SCs and other YT income.

I'd have to spreadsheet this out to properly speculate but that's just the napkin math feeling I have presuming talent revenue is fully reported on the income statement.

They can always aim the streamer route and there's many they could take from that. They can go variety streamer by streaming constantly in fix scheduled like the majority of JP, or ASMR way like noel by expanding their scope with other ASMR EN chuuba. Ina is also a good example having a "clear" goal by accepting drawing related sponsorships. Same with Mori who focus solely on her music and incline hard from there. If only she didnt give that unity statement and went ahead with her 3D debut, she could've a one man live concert by now or near future.
Ame already has the drive to went all out in her content. She alrready seems willing to put out the money to produce experimental contents like polka. Her problem is that she lack consistency and trying to do the whole thing on her own. Dunnp if she ever request help from manegement but if she trully have the guts to go all in and consistenly put out those kind of 3D contents, then she could ask the management to have her own assistant/mane-chan (her own izumi) to help her manage a small team of creative support like Polka's Legend of Polka.
