After getting into vtubers, I can no longer watch anime. It all feels so artificial and scripted, because it is. Vtubers are real people with motivations, aspirations and struggles. Even the best storywriting is ultimately dictated and biased by the writer, the characters do not exist, they are merely ideas, fantasy.

I used to take anime seriously and frequent r/anime. Before I left, that subreddit was already turning into bunch of moralfags using anime as a form of self-validation rather than appreciation. After revisiting now, I almost don't recognize the place. But even putting aside western collapse, I just don't get it. I don't see the value in these imaginary stories apart from girls being cute. On one hand, it feels like I've graduated from an illness, and at the same time it feels like I'm dying inside. While reality is more real it's also often more boring and painful than anime fantasyland.

It all is kind of ironic because vtuber culture is heavily based on anime and idol culture. I'm happy just watching vtubers getting excited over anime stuff, while not being interested in it myself. But then what's the purpose of vtubers and what are they working for? Is there any point in man-made goals or is life just about neuron activation?
