No, you used to be worse and there used to be more people bad at the game than good at the game playing it that you knew.
I played competitive from Day 1 with the original OCG sets, and I've been playing since. YGO has ALWAYS been the same shit of stupid rules interactions, unbalanced cards doing crazy shit with otherwise balanced mechanics, and Konami rubbing their hands together the entire time. The only thing that's changed is that now there are more card colors, and more people in the west play YGO competitively than casually.
It is not the game's responsibility to "recapture the magic" of your youth's folly. Git gud, learn the game for once, and then make petdecks and learn to enjoy playing the game, not just winning. Casual play is better than it's ever been and "business casual" decks are able to make metatards sweat while still being fun.

Correct. Whether you love it or hate it, Yugioh has always been the same. If your feelings about Yugioh have changed over the years, it's because you changed, not the game.

I personally love the game, but I'm not gonna lie and say that competitive is trash NOW, because it's always been trash.
